Moreau, in the furry fandom, is an uncommon term to describe a furry character.

Overview[edit]

The term is heavily associated with English writer H.G. Wells' novel, The Island of Dr. Moreau, in which the eponymous doctor used groundbreaking but extremely painful surgical techniques to transform animals into sentient anthropomorphs.

Moreaus in media[edit]

Books[edit]

"Moreaus" were first used in America writer S. Andrew Swann's novel, Forests of the Night. In it, the creatures are created as disposable government agents and are second-class citizens. The book spanned three sequels.

Games[edit]

"Moreaus" are a set of playable races in Wizards of the Coast's fantasy roleplaying game system, d20 Modern. In it, there are six types of "Moreaus", with three levels of "humanity" versus " animality" ("Covert" which look human; "moderate", which can look human with some effort; and ""overt"", which are obvious they are animals).

These Moreaus were created for the genetic engineering conspiracy setting, GeneTech, which was influenced by the books written by Swann.
