VancouFur 2012
VancouFur 2012 took place between March 9–11, 2012, although the convention had been in planning since the Spring of 2011. The event was chaired by Coal Silvermuzzle and co-chaired by Aphinity. Thanks to Vancouver's large and diverse Furry community, many of the founding staff of VancouFur had connections to other major events. Two of the most notable were Aphinity, known for his dedication to Howloween; and Trapa, who helped found Califur and Rainfurrest (and who chaired a prior attempt to form a furry convention in the Vancouver area).
The guest of honor for 2012 was Thumper. The theme for VancouFur's first year was "Great White North": a play on many of the widely held stereotypes about Canada. There were 347 attendees[citation needed], with 73 fursuiters in the parade. Attendees came from as far away as Poland. The event also attracted a fair amount of local media attention[2], and was featured on the local television news.[3].
VancouFur 2013
Preparations are under way for VF 2013.
The convention will once again take place at the Executive Hotel between March 1-3, 2013. Furry DJ Akonite has been elected chair of the convention. The theme for 2013 will be "Rocks and Rails,” and is inspired by the influential provincial railroad and mining industries. The three Guests of Honour are the owners and artists of Con*Tact Caffeine: Jana Stout (Maly), Jon DiFrancesco (Jondi), and Omekin Lutz.
Community Spotlight
VancouFur 2013 will feature the first Community Spotlight, highlighting local talent from the British Columbia and Northern Washington furry community. 2013's spotlight will be on Weremagnus.
Howloween
VancouFur has very close ties to Howloween. During the initial concept phase of VancouFur 2012 it was decided that Aphinity, organizer of Howloween, should be an integral part of bringing a full-fledged convention to Vancouver, and he was named co-chair. The Executive Suites, home of VancouFur, also became home to Howloween in 2011. Howloween now offers pre-registration at the door, for the following year's VancouFur.
