WikiFur:WikiFur Meetup

The WikiFur Meetup is a great way to get to know your fellow contributors, introduce friends to the project, discuss the future of the project, and just hang out and chat about all things furry. Light refreshments are usually available. Attendance varies, but is typically around 10-15.

Midwest FurFest 2008[edit]

Anthrocon 2008[edit]

  • Where: Giza's suite at the Westin, room number to be announced on the meetup/message board by registration, under W
  • When: Friday 27th June, 8PM to 11:30 (drop in anytime)

Notes[edit]

Light refreshments were be available throughout the meetup, and those which were not used were donated to the supersponsor lounge.

A key item of discussion was the host move, which is likely to happen shortly after Anthrocon. Another idea floated was the creation of a non-profit organization to manage WikiFur.

Midwest FurFest 2007[edit]

Got one? Bring it along!
  • Where: The WikiFur Administrator room, run by GreenReaper, room number to be posted on the meetup/message board by registration under "W"
  • When: Saturday 17 November, 10 PM to midnight (drop in anytime)

Notes[edit]

  • Light refreshments will be available, but they will not replace dinner.
  • A small supply of badges and carabiners will be available to contributors. First come, first served. If you got one at AC, please bring the old one along instead!

Attendees[edit]

Anthrocon 2007[edit]

  • Where: Giza's suite at the Westin, room number to be announced by flier on the meetup/message board by registration, under W
  • When: Friday 6th July, 8 PM to midnight (drop in anytime)

Attendees[edit]

Notes[edit]

  • All-age refreshments should be freely available throughout the meetup. If you want to bring some to increase variety, or help out with the cost of providing them, that'd be cool too, but we won't be asking for money at the door. :-)

Further Confusion 2007[edit]

  • Where: GreenReaper's room at the Doubletree
  • When: Sunday 11AM-1PM

Attendees[edit]

Anthrocon 2006[edit]

  • Where: Giza's suite at the Westin, room number to be announced by flier on the con meetup board
  • When: Friday 16th June, 8 PM to midnight (drop in anytime)

Notes[edit]

  • As the organizers' ability to pack or purchase food will be limited, please consider bringing some cheap food or drink along if you are able to. Reasonable costs will be covered if you need the money back (no caviar!).
  • There will be no alcohol at this meetup - Pennsylvania state laws on underage drinking are very strict, and we will not be restricting entry to adults.

Attendees[edit]

  • Giza (party host, WikiFur admin, helping with costs)
  • GreenReaper (WikiFur founder, helping with costs, bringing party plates)
  • Duncan da Husky (WikiFur admin, helping with costs)
  • Xydexx Squeakypony (Reluctant internet celebrity, signing autographs and stuff. Oh, uh, and helping with costs.)
  • Zorin the Lynx (lynxkitty, Occassional WikiFur contributor, Keeper of the fuzz. Will help with costs or bring chips or something. No idea)
  • Misha Bunny (Zorin's cohort, he'll find something for the bunny to do)
  • Markus (WikiFur admin, brief attendance expected at the least.)
  • Lurdanjo Mistaro (WikiFur contributor, will bring some soda)
  • Tom Howling

Please add your name above if you intend to attend, along with any refreshments you can bring along. This will help us to plan our own purchases and ensure we have enough space. You do not have to sign up in advance, though!
I should probably note that helping with costs or refreshments is not a requirement (or even an expectation) for those coming along to the meetup. If there is not enough food, we will try to arrange for more. If there are any unsettled costs at the end of it then we can divide them up among those who are around and can help. We're not charging $5/head and making you bring your own bottle of 7UP. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 06:42, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Discussion[edit]

Anything people would like to see or do at our first Meetup? Do we need to have something a little earlier as well, or are these times fine? Any other comments? --GreenReaper(talk) 12:03, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll be bringing my camera with me (as I do to all cons). In addition to getting some pictures during the party, I'd love to get a group shot of all of us who are there are some point. --Giza 18:47, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
I work for Stardock, who are a very nice company. I may be able to obtain some samples of our merchandise to be raffled off to attendees (probably not a raffle you'd have to pay to enter - I'm not sure that would even be legal). I'll add more info about this when I actually know if and what I will be able to give away. --GreenReaper(talk) 07:19, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Looks like they're being generous! I will have over $150 of software to give away - one box of Keepsafe, two boxes of Multiplicity (one Pro), two copies of Galactic Civilizations II (one Collector's Edition) and three GalCiv II Drengin t-shirts (XL). One of the shirts and boxes of GalCiv and/or Multiplicity may be going to the Charity Auction. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey Green. I went looking for you and couldn't find you. Dmuth/Giza told me that your fliers arrived just a short time ago. They are down by the Con's message board near the registration lines. They came out rather nicely. :) ----Markus(talk) 01:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Summary[edit]

Around 20-30 people attended over the course of the evening, including some regular and not-so-regular contributors. We talked about vairous things (sometimes even WikiFur! :-), watched Family Guy and generally had a good night. One highlight was the KDKA-TV report on the con, which amazingly enough did not suck.
