Alan Loewen is the pseudonym of Craig Loewen, whose primary interest in furry fandom is anthropomorphic-themed writing. He discovered furry fandom through Jordan "Greywolf" Peacock's unicorn artwork. His fan name, Heavy Horse, comes from his interest in equines both magical and mundane as well as a tribute to the song made famous by the rock group Jethro Tull. He was born 1 November 1954.

Five of his stories were published in PawPrints Fanzine during that fanzine's lifetime. Outside of the furry community, his fiction ranges from science fiction and fantasy to Lovecraftian Horror. He is currently collaborating with Ken Pick on a trilogy entitled (The Adventures of Jill Noir, a semi-furry space-opera).

Alan has had three short story collections self-published on Amazon.com, one being the fully furry collection, Opal Wine. He and his co-writer, Ken Pick, have the lead story in Fred Patten's anthology, Anthropomorphic Aliens (2014).

Alan Loewen is a Christian fur and moderates/hosts The Unicorn and Gryphon on Yahoo groups, as well as Christian_Fic2 (Christian genre fiction). He also regularly attends Anthrocon due to its locality to the mid-Atlantic states as well as a regular speaker/attendee at Capclave.

Heavy Horse was a Guest of Honour at Morphicon 2012 and Doxacon 2013.
