The Shaggy Dog is a movie first produced in 1959 by Walt Disney starring Fred MacMurray as Wilby Daniels, a mail carrier that gets turned into a shaggy Old English Sheepdog after a small accident at a museum involving a table covered in ancient rings. The film is loosely based on the 1923 novel The Hound of Florence by Felix Salten. The film was followed by a sequel, The Shaggy D.A. in 1976.
There were also two television films, The Return of the Shaggy Dog in 1987, and The Shaggy Dog in 1994.
In 2006, Disney produced an updated remake of this 1959 classic starring Tim Allen as District Attorney Dave Douglas. In this version, the dog is a Bearded Collie and is named Khyi Yang Po. When Dave comes home one day to Khyi Yang Po in his home, he agitates him when ordering him out and gets bitten on the hand. Unknown to him, this dog carried a rare genetic mutation from a serum that a pharmaceutical company and animal testing that was exploiting to increase the lifespan of humans and worse, this mutation is transmittable by contact with the body fluids of the "infected" through bites and causes them to turn into a copy of him. Soon afterward, Dave finds himself turning into a dog exactly like him.
While neither movie is furry-oriented, they are both comedies and classic family films.
