Synths are an anthropomorphic, reptillian android species created by Vader-San.

Synths are an open species; others are permitted to create Synth characters and to adapt or deviate from established anatomy or canon without obtaining permission.

Anatomy[edit]

Synths typically resemble anthropomorphic reptiles, with elongated heads, large tails and digitigrade feet.

Synth heads commonly feature mechanical 'mouths', nostrils for air intake, three-dimensional visors displaying their eyes, antenna-like horns, and several status lights. Sensors and the Synth's central processor are located within the head, behind the visor.

Internally, Synths contain components that simulate organic functions such as digestion and respiration—intended to extract useful materials from their surroundings—and a capillary system for transporting materials and nanites within their bodies.

They are constructed of a graphene composite endoskeleton surrounded by pneumatically operated muscles and advanced energy storage devices. This is surrounded by an artificial water-proof skin and may also feature additional rigid plating.

Synths are extremely modular, with most aspects of their anatomy and appearance, such as limbs and skin, being swappable. Synths may customise their bodies to suit contemporary fashions, modify their gender presentation, or to add specialised functions for work.

Lore[edit]

Synth lore is the history and culture as it exists in Vader-San's own canon. Owners of Synth characters are free to adopt or disregard any part of Synth lore as they see fit.

Culture[edit]

Synths do not have a distinct cultural identity of their own, instead tending to adopt the culture in which they are raised.

Synths are created with a blank neural network capable of developing artificial general intelligence. Rather than having pre-programmed knowledge Synths must learn and develop over time, and are raised in a manner similar to organic children until they reach a state of functional independence.

Synths are created on demand. When a Synth or organic decides they wish to raise a Synth, they must apply for one to be produced. A Synth is considered to have been "born" when their minds are "sparked"—which is achieved by infusing it with the personality traits of its parent or parents—and the mind is implanted into a pre-manufactured body.

History[edit]

In the far future, after one or more unidentified species from the Sol system had colonised much of the Milky Way galaxy, an unknown cataclysm known as "The Great Reset" resulted in the extinction of all biological life in the majority of the galaxy, leaving only the pre-industrialised colonies on the Outer Rim unaffected.

Over the following centuries, many of the remaining colonies banded together and underwent industrialisation. Initially, this took the form of simple robots designed to perform pre-programmed tasks, however the manpower required to maintain these machines started to prove onerous and many colonies were struggling to produce enough food for their rapidly growing populations.

Using their existing knowledge of robotics and rudimentary artificial intelligence (one of the few technologies to have survived The Great Reset), development began on robots that could perform various forms of manual and professional labour, maintain themselves and not drain colonies' limited food supplies. The first Synth prototypes were completed in 688 AR (After Reset) and entered mass production 10 years later.

Early Synths were relatively simple and lacked the modularity of later versions. They were originally considered as being owned by society, however quickly became recognised as sentient individuals in their own right.

Synths and furry[edit]

The Synth species has become popular within the furry fandom as fursonas and original characters. They are an example of robotic or robot-inspired species, similar to anthroids and primagen/protogen.
