ScalesMUCK is a MUCK primarily aimed at scalie characters.

Description

ScalesMUCK was established in 1998 by ChronosWolf, intended for scalies but also allowing furries to join as well. ScalesMUCK runs MUCK version Muck2.2fb6.17, and is hosted on Amazon Web Services. Formerly, it was hosted by Madcoyote Studios. The previous administrator of ScalesMUCK was Reveille D'Giovanetti, who remains a wizard.

The current owner and lead admin is Phorsaken.

Issues

During the dot-com era, ScalesMUCK relocated to a new website, but faced DNS server and naming issues. Due to this, many of ScalesMUCK's userbase left the MUCK for good. The website's issues were eventually resolved, and ScalesMUCK eventually reestablished, but with only a fraction of its former population.

In mid-October of 2006, the MUCK's host, madcoyote.com, experienced a major hardware failure. As a result, the MUCK was down for ten days. The issues were fixed, but in order to prevent another incident similar to this from happening again, ScalesMUCK was mirrored nightly at a second location for immediate DNS changeover.

Closure

Due to a constantly declining user population, the MUCK was shut down permanently on September 24, 2011, at 7:02PM PST.

Re-Opening

Phorsaken expressed interest in early 2013 in reopening the MUCK, running it on a Raspberry Pi system. The MUCK came back online officially on Sunday, Feb 24, 2013.

While running the MUCK on a Raspberry Pi was a fun exercise, it proved to be more trouble than it was worth in the long run. So, in late 2015, the MUCK was moved to Amazon Web Services, where it continues to live to this day.

2015 Upgrades

In October of 2015, the MUCK was upgraded to the latest version of fbmuck, (6.17), and moved from a Raspberry Pi to being hosted on Amazon Web Services. The domain was also changed as a nod to the MUCK's "currency," herpy bits.

2019 Updates

Early in 2019, Reveille, (during some 'house cleaning' of sorts), transferred the original domains to Phorsaken to run the MUCK on. So now, the MUCK is online exactly as it was back during the golden years.
