The Ocean City Doo Dah Parade, also known locally as the Doo Dah Parade, is an annual parade held in Ocean City, New Jersey, USA, to celebrate the opening of the city's season of events.[1]

Overview[edit]

The parade was first held on April 19, 1986, inspired by the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade.[2] It was traditionally held on the Saturday after Tax Day (April 15) but has sometimes been held before that date in recent years.

The Doo Dah Parade marches down Asbury Avenue and up the boardwalk to the Music Pier, with many spectators along the route. It was traditionally followed by the Pie-asco in front of the Music Pier, a tribute to American comedian Soupy Sales in which willing participants threw shaving-cream pies at one another. It is no longer a part of the parade, removed presumably for safety and liability reasons.

COVID-19[edit]

The parade did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3][4]

Ocean City Doo Dah parade and furry[edit]

The parade is regularly attended by a brigade of local furry fans, as well as attendees traveling from neighboring states. The furry brigade was called "Rapid T. Rabbit & Friends", founded and led by Rapid T. Rabbit from 1995 until his death on August 1, 2017. The brigade was renamed "The Friends of Rapid. T. Rabbit" in 2018 and was hosted by Tilt Longtail in 2018. It is now hosted by Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends artist Jess Hillard.

The 2012 parade was attended by approximately 60 furries, with over 20 fursuiters participating in the parade.

The "fursuit Pie-asco" used to be held simultaneously along the Soupy Sales' Pie-asco, typically organized by Tilt Longtail, until its cancellation.
