How can this be changed so that 'Fetishes' doesn't appear as its own subcategory? --Unci 12:21, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

I started by deleting the Fetishes category page (even though it's a redirect).. but it can be undeleted if necessary. I'm not sure that's a proper fix, though. We'll see. -- Siege(talk) 16:24, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

definition of para[edit]

--"para" had been defined here with a very negative definition of abnormal or incorrect; I added a parenthetical to note that para also is used to mean "similar," "near" or "parallel" to, words without the negative connotation. "parasexual activity", correctly defined, is activity that is similar to sexual activity, like sexual activity, parallel to sexual activity-- the word does not have to have the connotation of "abnormal." (Dictionary.com is a good reference here, but since the first few definitions are of a different meaning of para that is completely irrelevant, I decided not to add the link.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.156.189.232 (talkcontribs) .

Suggest renaming, to Fetishes[edit]

Parapilia seems an oddly clinical term to be using as a category name here. I suggested renaming this category to Fetishes. -- Sine 18:00, 23 June 2012 (EDT)

I used the term because at the time most of the terms here ended with -philia and because overall, our goal was to document them in a detached (if not quite scientific) way. As the lede states, a fetish is technically different from a paraphilia as it has to be expressed in a particular person. Arguably some of the articles currently in this category are about fan groups of fetishists rather than the paraphilias themselves, though that's mostly because there's not enough to say about it to support a separate page. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:50, 23 June 2012 (EDT)
