Category talk:Fox characters

Rolled back an edit where this category had been moved from Category:Canine characters to Category:Characters. The consensus of mammologists is that foxes are in fact members of Canidae (which has two tribes: Vulpini, the fox tribe; and Canini the dog/wolf tribe). --mwalimu 00:00, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Subtypes

What defines a "Fox character" versus a character of a given subtype? I've noticed the apparently random removal of one or the other. It would seem to me that all "red fox characters" or "arctic fox characters" and so forth are obviously also "fox characters." This question, of course, also pertains to all species, not just foxes. I would like a definitive answer on this, to avoid confusion. Thank you. --Autumnfox 03:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

For categorical purposes, yes. That is why Category:Red Fox characters is a subcategory of Category:Fox characters. However, it is not standard Wiki protocol to list an article under every supercategory its subcateogries belong in (ie, an article for a cheetah-hybrid character would be listed under Category:Cheetah-hybrid characters, but not listed under cheetah characters, or feline characters). Similarly, a character who is an Arctic wolf is not also listed under the generic wolf or generic canine species categories. For article purposes, we generally list only the most specific category possible for that area. [The only exception we have is Artists, which is a subcat of People, but artists have both of the aforementioned categories listed.] Spaz Kitty 04:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

How many of these articles belong to the Category:Red Fox characters? We need to browse through this and properly sort them, perhaps chunks at a time.--Kendricks Redtail
