The caracal (Caracal caracal) is a fiercely territorial medium-sized cat ranging over western Asia, south Asia, and Africa.
Description[edit]
This species of wild cat is slender, yet muscular, with long legs and a short tail. They have black stripes from the forehead to the nose, the black outline of the mouth, the distinctive black facial markings, and the white patches surrounding the eyes and the mouth. The fur is usually a sandy color, with white spots on the chin. Their ears are large, with black tufts of fur on the ends.
The caracal is often confused with the lynx, as both of these cats have tufted ears. However, they are a different species.
Caracals hunt small mammals and birds, including small antelopes, rodents, hyraxes, and hares.
