Cassidy Civet, full Cassidy The Civet (born September 17, 1998), is a Canadian-Italian[1] Malayan civet who lives in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada.[2] Her fursona is a Malayan Civet.

Biography

Cassidy was born September 17, 1998 in Port Moody, British Columbia, where she still currently resides. Cassidy primarily works as a movie extra when not at conventions, as well as odd municipal jobs. Her father served as a city councillor from 2018 to 2022.

She suffered a mini stroke, or TIA, on May 1, 2019. This has largely been the reason she has decided to finally release her first album.

Fandom Involvement

From 2017 to 2018, as well Cassidy was the lead of the Vancoufur Variety Show. She returned in 2022 to run the variety show again, as well as the dance competition for that year, although did not return as lead for 2023. She has also had her own solo concerts at various conventions, with the most recent being at Wild Prairie Fur Con 2023, where she was a guest of honor.

Cassidy has performed in several dance competitions over the years, having performed in 13 overall, and has placed 3rd at one convention, Tails and Tornadoes Fur Con in 2021. She has also been a judge at several competitions, most recently at Furvana 2021. In addition to this, she has performed in many variety shows, most notably obtaining 1st place at Further Confusion 2021 & Furnal Equinox 2023, and 2nd place at Fur-Eh in 2019 & 2022.

Cassidy also runs a series of panels at various conventions called Survivfur, which is based off the CBS series “Survivor.”

Music, art, and miscellaneous endeavors

Cassidy is a musician who frequently publishes music in a variety of genres, usually Pop Music, EDM and Adult Contemporary. She has released two albums under the Cassidy Civet monicker, Double Take and Cruel Oasis. She was also a songwriter for the soundtrack to Komorebi, a videogame created by Klace. The first promotional single "Stay The Night" was released on May 12, 2023, on Spotify, and the album[3] was released on July 21.

Cassidy has been submitting songs for the Eurovision Song Contest annually since 2015, for a rotating series of countries including Norway, San Marino, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Macedonia, Ireland, Malta and Moldova. Her fursuit was featured briefly in two official fan recaps for the Semi Finals in 2020[4][5][6]. She also auditioned for San Marino in 2022 and 2023, although was not successful in either attempt.

Aside from appearing in fursuit at Eurovision, she was one of the hundreds of fans who submitted their voice to be used in the entry from Iceland at the 2021 contest while the use of prerecorded backing vocals was still permitted. Making her the first and so far only furry to have their voice heard at the contest in an official entry.[7]

Media Appearances

In 2022, Cassidy appeared on the second season of Canada’s Got Talent, where she was featured in a short clip, being eliminated by all four judges before she could complete her performance.[8]

At Motor City Fur Con 2023, Cassidy gave an interview to WWJ 950, a local Detroit radio station following a bomb threat that had been called into the convention[9]. Since then, some have criticized this appearance [10], as it was claimed attendees were told not to talk to the media, although Cassidy denied that anyone had told her not to do so [11]. Others also derided her decision to allow various news outlets to run footage of convention attendees with their faces exposed, without those attendees permission[12]

Controversy & Feuds

In January of 2021, Cassidy posted on Twitter about Remy, the con chair of Anthro New England, refusing to undo a retweet from an account called NazifurReceipts, which called on Cassidy to help steer another fandom musician, Niic The Singing Dog, away from associating with fascism. [13] In Cassidy’s posts, she shared direct messages with Remy, where Cassidy insisted they were being accused falsely of being on a “Nazi fur podcast” by Remy, although Remy explained in their response that no such accusation had been made. Despite Remy’s explanation, this incident evolved into Cassidy claiming that Remy had accused Cassidy of being a nazi, with her making this claim several times since the initial incident occurred[14][15][16][17][18].

This finally culminated in leaked screencaps on 2023 of Cassidy hoping that Remy and their partner, Scales, are "taken out" in a train accident[19]. Cassidy has since confirmed the authenticity of the screencaps, claiming it was a joke, while also attesting there was nothing wrong with what she said, as she did not “wish” anyone would die, and only “hoped.” [20]. Since then, Cassidy has additionally claimed on several occasions that Remy stole donations from Harvest Moon Howl Fest[21][22][23], although no evidence of this claim has materialized.

At Furnal Equinox 2023, Cassidy was cut from the dance competition last minute [24], due to comments made by Cassidy earlier in the convention that had been a cause for concern to staff.[25] No comment was made from Furnal Equinox about the incident.

On April 27, 2023, after previously being announced as the IndyFurCon 2023 Guest of Honor, Cassidy was disinvited by the convention for being GoH. [26][27]

At Denfur 2023, Cassidy was banned from the convention. According to Cassidy, the ban was for soliciting con attendees for merchandise sales, despite not having a dealer’s table at the convention. [28] Denfur has not made a public statement about the ban.

There have also been accusations on several occasions, that Cassidy’s fan account, CassidyCivetFan on Twitter, is a sockpuppet of Cassidy’s, which Cassidy uses to continue messaging people after they have blocked her, or to mask that it is her responding to people [29][30]. The fan account has denied these claims [31], although it has been shown before that Cassidy does have access to the account. [32]
