Furcadia is an furry graphical multiplayer online community developed by Felorin (Dr. Cat) and Talzhemir ('Manda), with contributions from many others. Furcadia has been running since 1996, and is probably the largest online furry community, with over 50,000 registered users and 2,000 - 3,000 online users active at any given time.

Overview

Furcadia is free to all users. To join Furcadia, the Windows client can be downloaded and installed. This client connects to the furcadia server, allows for character creation, and provides a graphical environment where a furre (Furcadia character) to explore dreams and interact with others.

When one first joins Furcadia, part of the process of creating an account includes selecting ones species. The following species are built in: Rodent, Equine, Feline, Canine, Musteline, Lapine and Squirrel, with the next update promises to bring Cows and Bears. It is very commonplace to build upon these base types to create specialized species, for example, choosing the colouring on a squirrel to look like a skunk.

In addition to selecting a species, colours are chosen to provide a visually distinctive appearance, and a description is written that is presented to other furres.
