Skins, also known as Skinners, is a very seldom-used term, if not obsolete, coined by Darmon C. Thornton in 1999, in the now defunct Burned Furs message board, which he felt it was more of "identifying label" "to separates one's self from the furry' stigma" than the label "Mundane" convened.

This term is - or, by now, was - also used by a small group of people in the Southern California animation industry with strong dislikes for the furry fandom.

Skins also appeared in an xkcd comic as a humorous version of furries whose fursonas like dressing up as humans.
