Garret the Ferret, also known as the "Copyright Crusader" or merely the BSA ferret,[1] is a mascot for the Business Software Alliance's anti-software piracy campaign Play It Cyber Safe.

Purpose[edit]
"Play It Cyber Safe" and Garret were created namely in order to encourage children to report software piracy to the BSA; a 2004 contest to name the ferret as one of up to five pre-approved names spurred mostly humorous and deprecatory suggestions from online websites,[2] but the character was used by the BSA in various edutainment games[3] and an anti-piracy comic[4].
It was named by Wired magazine in 2007 as one of the 15 "Lamest Technology Mascots Ever".[5]
